Let me be upfront with you: I could sit here and tell you about the perfect skincare routine. The one with 12 steps, fancy tools, and all the time in the world to stand in front of the mirror. But that's not my life. And I'm guessing it's not yours either.
Real life looks more like making breakfast while answering questions about missing shoes, reheating your coffee for the third time, and trying to get everyone out the door on time. Somewhere in the middle of all that, you're supposed to take care of yourself too. So I stopped trying to do it all and started doing what I could actually stick to. Here's the routine that's been working for me.
"The best skincare routine isn't the most complicated one. It's the one you'll actually do — even on the hard days."
Why I Stopped Chasing Complicated Routines
For a while, I thought better skin meant more products. More serums, more steps, more everything. But instead of actually helping, it just made skincare feel like another thing on the to-do list I was already failing to keep up with. I'd do it for a week and then completely fall off. Sound familiar?
Eventually I figured out something that sounds obvious but genuinely changed how I approach this: simple and consistent beats complicated every single time. A five-minute routine you do every day will always outperform a 12-step routine you do twice a month. That's when I stopped chasing perfect and built something that actually fits my life.
My Morning Routine (About 3 Minutes)
Mornings are for protecting and supporting my skin before I head into the day. Five steps, done before the kids finish breakfast.
Morning Step 01
Cleanser
Gentle is the key word here. I want to remove overnight oil and feel refreshed — not have my face feel tight and stripped the second I dry off. A gentle cleanser that leaves your skin comfortable is the foundation everything else is built on.
Morning Step 02
Hyaluronic Acid
This is one of my favorite steps because hydrated skin just looks better — it's smoother, healthier, and more radiant. And when your skin is properly hydrated, everything else you apply works better too. It's the step that sets up the whole rest of your routine.
Morning Step 03 ← The One I'd Never Skip
Vitamin C Serum
If I had to pick one skincare product for busy mornings, this would be it. It brightens, evens out tone, and acts as an antioxidant shield against the UV exposure and environmental stress my skin is going to deal with all day. It takes seconds to apply and it's the step that makes me feel like I'm actually doing something for my skin — even on the most chaotic mornings.
One pump, pressed in gently. That's it.

Morning Step 04
Moisturizer
This seals in everything and keeps my skin feeling comfortable all day. Especially as I've gotten older, I've realized how much of a difference a good moisturizer makes — not just for how my skin feels, but for how it holds up against whatever the day throws at it.
Morning Step 05
SPF — Every Single Day
Even when it's cloudy. Even when I'm mostly inside. Even when I'm running late and tempted to skip it. SPF is the simplest thing you can do for your skin's long-term health, and future me is always grateful when present me remembered it. This one's non-negotiable.
My Night Routine (About 2 Minutes)
By nighttime, I am tired. You're probably tired too. Which is exactly why this stays incredibly simple. No fancy steps, no complicated layering — just the basics that let my skin do its repair work overnight.
Night Step 01
Cleanser
Remove the whole day — makeup, sunscreen, buildup, all of it. This is the step that makes everything after it actually work. Clean skin is the only canvas worth working with at night.
Night Step 02
Hyaluronic Acid
Hydration again — because skin that's well-hydrated at night wakes up looking so much better in the morning. This step takes ten seconds and makes a noticeable difference.
Night Step 03 ← My Overnight Repair Step
Vitamin A Wrinkle Recovery Serum
This is my nighttime workhorse. While I sleep, vitamin A is supporting my skin's renewal process — helping with texture, firmness, and that overall "I actually took care of myself" look that greets me in the morning. It's gentle enough to use consistently, and that consistency is where the real results come from.
Night Step 04
Moisturizer
Seal everything in so nothing is lost overnight. Comfortable, hydrated skin. Done. Go to bed.

What I Do 2–3 Times Per Week
A few times a week, I add gentle exfoliation right after cleansing. This is the step that removes buildup and lets everything else actually work the way it's supposed to. Without it, your serums and moisturizers are working through a layer of dead skin cells — and that's not great for anyone's glow.
2–3x Per Week
Exfoliating Scrub
I personally love a dissolving scrub because it exfoliates as it dissolves — which means when you rinse off, there's nothing left behind. No gritty particles, no residue, and absolutely no wondering how it ended up in your mouth 😅 Just smoother, fresher-feeling skin that's ready to actually absorb everything you put on it.
The Full Routine at a Glance
Why This Routine Works for Me
It's not because it's perfect. It's because it's realistic. I can do this when life is busy. I can do this when I'm exhausted. I can do this even on the days when everything is chaotic and I've got approximately four minutes to myself. And that's what makes all the difference. Not perfection — consistency.
The Whole Point
A routine you'll actually do
will always beat a perfect routine
you keep abandoning.
Start simple. Stay consistent. Let the results build over time.
The Best Skincare Routine Is the One You'll Actually Do
Social media makes it look like skincare has to be complicated to work. It doesn't. Healthy-looking skin isn't about doing everything — it's about doing the right things consistently. That's why my routine stays simple, and that's why I'll actually still be doing it in six months.
You don't need another thing on your to-do list. You need a few intentional minutes each day and products that actually work together. That's the routine worth keeping. 💛
